Reward and Recognition

Alvin Wilder and Special Olympics

A big high five goes to Alvin Wilder for his work with the Special Olympics.

Each year in May, Emory hosts the Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) competition on campus. This competition is open to the nearly 25,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities being served by the SOGA throughout the state. Alvin Wilder (Enterprise Services) plays an integral role in the planning and implementation of the communications for the event.

Alvin provides the SOGA with ham-radio telephone services, which are used by both the staff and police. By setting up ring-down phones (phones that call the Olympics headquarters when the handset is picked up) throughout the dormitories being used to house the athletes, the guests have quick and easy information access.

IIn addition, Alvin's team implements data services and wi-fi. These efforts require a fair amount of temporary network cabling that has to be installed and then taken out just after the event. The work also requires tight collaboration with other event organizers to ensure the proper placement. All of these services are provided at no charge.

Alvin has led this effort for the past 10 years and Stephon Clayton, Tia Hill, and Quincy Thomas (all of Enterprise Services) have assisted Alvin in this endeavor. They each worked on the project in the mornings before their regular duties.

We are proud of Alvin's dedication to this effort and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the SOGA.

Athan Gets Recognized

Athan Gillette: True Service Professional

Kudos go out to Athan Gillette (Enterprise Services) for his front line work with the School of Medicine. According to Jeremy Kerley, Computer Support Specialist II in the SOM, "He provided excellent customer service and tried his best to resolve the issue. He deserves a big pat on the back for digging through my past work orders in an attempt to find the original BES activation request for Dr. Buchter.

Thanks again for all your help in getting Dr. Buchter back in the saddle."

Great Job!!! Way to go the extra mile!
